Ch’iil, kumche’ (Granary)

The Ch’iil, kumche’ is a wooden granary used to store the “troje”, which is the ancient Spanish name for maize. This is one of the oldest self-sustaining systems of food security. Understanding this system enables us to obtain a deeper knowledge about the practices of civilized Mayan communities.
