Schools and Education

The Eco Museum is a rich and diverse outdoor learning resource. From studying the important local indigenous history of the country’s ancestors, through to engaging young minds in creative craft activities, young people are inspired to learn through experience and enjoyment – without a computer screen in sight!

Throughout the year, schools, universities and PhD students utilize the Eco Museum site for a whole host of education, research, workshop and camp activities. As well as events run by the Eco Museum team, the whole site is available for private hire.

The Eco Museum offers a wide variety of interesting and engaging educational activities, allowing us to personally tailor your experience according to your educational needs and learning outcomes. Take a look at some of the activites we deliver:

Learning about the history and traditions of the island

Discovering the plants of the Littoral Forest

Understanding the Yucatan endemic birds that frequent the park

Learning about Maya herbal medicine

Exploring the historical industries of the island

Enjoying authentic traditional Maya food cooked on an open fire hearth (fogón)

Participating in coconut husking and coconut oil making

Engaging in the preparation of traditional local meals

Creating arts and crafts using coconut shells

Sampling unique coconut products made from fresh coconuts
